Student Bio/Information
Ian Eddy has worked as a classroom teacher for the past four years within Los Angeles County. He currently holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Education from UCLA and he is working to obtain his Administrative Credential from UCLA through UCLA’s Principal Leadership Institute. His goal as an educator is to broaden his student’s world-view, present college-level rigor through daily lessons, and overall prepare his students to meet the challenges of college and adulthood. He feels that he can work to transform student’s educational experiences by building students capacity to think critically and analyze the world before them, which will give them the tools to challenge pre-existing thoughts and practices that have created social boundaries and realms of inequality. Ian’s goal is to support the school's mission to encourage students to accept responsibility for their own lives, their actions, and the impact they have on changing society as they continue their lifelong process of learning. Ian will continue to work in field of education and is striving to become a social justice leader within an inner-city school.

School Information
Ian currently works at Hawthorne High School, which is part of the Centinela Valley Union High School District and located in Hawthorne, California. Hawthorne High School is designated as a “Title 1” school, located within a low-socioeconomic region within Los Angeles County. Even though the demographics of my school site are somewhat diverse, the majority of the students that I serve are English-Language Learners. The demographics of the school reflect the demographics of the surrounding community. The school currently serves 2,000 neighborhood students and over 90% of the student population is Latino. The rest of the school is comprised of African-American, Filipino, Pacific Islander students. The majority of my student population falls below the poverty line, which makes 95% of them eligible for free and reduced lunch. The school is currently undergoing renovation that will prepare the school to serve a larger student population.
