Senior Class Co-Coordinator

Overview/Plan

Due to the lack of not having a college counselor for the school, I set out to create a senior pamphlet for future senior teachers that outline the major deadlines, to do lists, and words of advice on specific senior topics.  The Senior Pathways Teachers and I scheduled a Senior Parent Meeting to discuss graduation requirements, senior year expectations, and for them to sign the senior contract. I also worked with the counselor to meet with seniors who were at-risk to not graduate so that she could set up a meeting with both the seniors and their parents and discuss their options. Towards the end of the second semester, I worked with the Leadership teacher  and Leadership Team to help plan graduation.

Senior Class Coordinator Role

I learned that in order to create a senior pamphlet, that I should research what information is available both on site (from the former college counselor, now a counselor at a previous school) and online. I learned that there is a lot of valuable information available online and that the most help I received was from the former college counselor. I learned that it is important to seek help from others who might be more knowledgeable than you in certain topics, a characteristic that an effective leader should possess.

Senior Dinner

In planning graduation, I learned the value of beginning to plan graduation ahead of time. For this year’s graduation, we decided that it would be a good idea to have a senior speech competition for a spot to speak at graduation. We also decided that it would be effective to invite a keynote speaker to graduation- someone that the kids can relate to- to give graduation more appealing to parents and students. Furthermore, we made a Speech Competition amongst the seniors.
