LACES Sharing Brings Hope Charitable Campaign
Overview
This year, I was given the duty of organizing the LACES Sharing Brings Hope Charitable Campaign. This campaign fundraises for 12 organizations that provide various types of support to students in the Los Angeles area. In the month of March, students and teachers were given donation envelopes for a week to fundraise for this event.
My Role as Campaign Organizer
I did several things to help prepare and close this campaign. The duties included:
1. Attend district meeting for campaign information.
2. Meet with administration to set up dates that the campaign would take place.
3. Sort campaign envelopes for each homeroom.
4. Pass out campaign envelopes to each homeroom teacher.
5. Create daily announcements to be heard by the school pertaining to campaign information.
6. Collect donation envelopes and count money.
7. Send money into the district office.
What I Have Learned
My principal assigned me this event so that I could experience an operational procedure that most administrators encounter. My other projects revolved around my leadership roles as a math teacher, so this event was assigned so that I could work on a project outside my math roles. Executing this project gave me an opportunity to experience setting up a district-mandated event. This event was interesting to execute because there was not much buy-in from the staff or students. Similarly, there weren’t many attendees at the district meeting where campaign information was disclosed. This seemed like more of a compliance project even though the event itself is a positive campaign aimed to help support students in our Los Angeles community.
