Master Program Institute (MPI)
Action
As a Social Justice Counselor, I found it to be my responsibility to educate myself on how to build an effective Master Schedule that would be student-centered. Course offerings at a high school are one way of ensuring that all students, especially in inner-cities, be able to access a curriculum that will prepare them for college and one that is equitable for all students. One of the disadvantages of inner-city schools is that opportunities are not as available for students' success and preparation for universities, such as is the case in more affluent schools. Being properly trained on the logistics of building a Master Schedule so that all students can access it in a manner that will allow them opportunities similar to more affluent schools is a responsibility of mine that I take personally to be able to follow with fidelity.
Connection to CPSEL's
As a future Social Justice Leader, one important way to fight the injustices suffered by our students in inner cities due to the lack of resources, is to provide for them as best as possible those resources, such as curriculum and courses, that will allow them an opportunity to graduate college ready and allow them the opportunity to attend any university of their choice, including Ivy League schools. The CPSEL's addressed in this leadership activity are the following:
1.5 Shape school programs, plans, and activities to ensure that they are integrated, articulated through the grades, and consistent with the vision.
2.2 Promote equity, fairness, and respect among all members of the school community.
2.4 Promote equity, fairness, and respect among all members of the school community.
3.7 Manage legal and contractual agreements and records in ways that foster a professional work environment and secure privacy and confidentiality for all students and staff.
5.3 Use the influence of office to enhance the educational program, not personal gain.
5.4 Make and communicate decisions based upon relevant data and research about effective teaching and learning, leadership, management practices, and equity.
5.8 Engage in professional and personal development.
6.1 Work with the governing board and district and local leaders to influence policies that benefit students and support the improvement of teaching and learning.
6.5 Collect and report accurate records of school performance.
